Lasagne

Lasagne is one of the traditional Italian dishes that everybody likes, combing the best of meat, pasta and a tomato sauce, it's great!
The ingredients »
- 400 grams of minced beef
- 2 x carrots, peeled and chopped
- 1 x onion, finely chopped
- 2 x sticks of celery, chopped
- 2 x cloves of garlic, crushed
- 200 mili-litres of beef stock
- 2 cans of tomatoes
- 8 slices of fresh pasta
- 1 litre of milk
- 1 x bay leaves
- 50 grams of butter
- 50 grams of plain flour
- 1 cup of grated mozzarella or parmesan cheese
- 1 x bottle of red wine, for good measure
How to make »
- Heat some oil in a frying pan and lightly brown the celery, carrots and onion for about ten minutes, then add the garlic.
- Now add the beef mince and well brown it. Add the tomatoes, stock and a good glassful of red wine. Pour yourself a glass while you wait. This needs to be covered and left for about 40 minutes. Taste every so often and add seasoning if necessary.
- For the bechamel sauce, pour the milk in a large non-stick saucepan, add the bay leaf and onion and gently bring to the boil.
- In a separate saucepan melt the butter and add the flour. Make sure it's well beaten in. Remove the milk from the heat and add some to the flour mixture. Make sure it is well combined before adding any more. Continue to do this until all the milk has been added, whisking continually.
- Find a good dish that will house the lasagne. Put the bechamel sauce at the bottom of a lasagne dish in a layer, then place some of the pasta strips over the top. Now add a layer of the tomato sauce. Repeat the layers untill you've used up everything.
- Put lots of the grated cheese all over the top and sprinkle over some freshly ground black pepper. Bake this is the oven for about half an hour.
